Come along to the Library's panel discussion celebrating female writers as part of NSW Women's Week (2 - 8 March 2025).

The panel discussion will celebrate and explore the female perspective on writing and representation, and the empowerment that comes from the written word. The lineup features Gayle Kennedy, Emily Dash and Fiona Murphy, and will be moderated by Elizabeth Wright.

Books will be available for purchase and signing on the night at the Glen Street Library.

Gayle Kennedy headshot

Gayle Kennedy is a member of the Wongaiibon Clan of NSW and was the Indigenous Issues editor and writer for Streetwise Comics from 1995-1998. In 2006 she won the David Unaipon Award for Me, Antman & Fleabag, which was shortlisted for a Victorian Premier's Literary Award, a Deadly Award and was commended in the Kate Challis RAKA Award. Gayle has published eleven children's books as part of the Yarning Strong (OUP) series, and six of these were nominated for the 2011 Deadly Award for Achievement in Literature. 

Emily Dash - headshot

Emily Dash is a writer, actor, producer, and advocate who has spent the last ten years fighting for better access and inclusion in the arts.  Her acclaimed and wide ranging work in theatre and screen emphasises social justice issues, community engagement, intersectionality, and expanding perceptions of disability.

Fiona Murphy

Fiona Murphy is an award-winning writer, editor and arts critic. She has been widely published, including in The Guardian, ABC, The Saturday Paper, Griffith Review, The Big Issue. 

In 2021, her memoir about growing up deaf, The Shape of Sound, was released in Australia, New Zealand, UK and North America. It was highly commended in the 2022 Victorian Premier’s Literary Awards.Fiona regularly lectures on creative writing and facilitates creative writing workshops. She is a MacDowell Fellow (2022) and Peter Blazey Fellow (2024).

Elizabeth Wright - Headshot

Elizabeth Wright is a Paralympic medalist, keynote speaker, emcee and a reporter with ABC Sport. She brings forth all of her life experience to challenge people around disability, sport, diversity, and inclusion. 

Born with limb difference, Elizabeth was raised by parents who taught her how to fight for equality and opportunity. She holds degrees in in Fine Art and Character Education, she is an international speaker, and has edited and written for multiple disability focused and mainstream publications. Elizabeth now works at the ABC as a reporter, with a keen interest in telling Para sport stories.
