Pianist extraordinaire Jan Preston, together with her band, will delight you with live performances of iconic hits — Black and White Rag, Big Ben Boogie, Bumble Boogie — while she tells the fascinating life story of Winnie Atwell – the first female artist to top the UK charts with Let’s Have Another Party – together with 150 projected photos from the archives of The National Library of Australia.

Born in the West Indies, Winifred Atwell became known as Queen of the Ivories and an icon in Australian
entertainment history after she emigrated from London, settling in Australia, breaking all box office attendances on the Tivoli circuit between Sydney and Melbourne. She sold millions of records worldwide, had 11 top ten hits, and is fondly remembered for her vibrant honkytonk, boogie/ragtime piano. Despite being greatly loved, Winnie endured racism as one of the only black women in the mainstream entertainment scene from the 1950s – 70s.

Known as Australia’s Queen of Boogie Piano, Jan Preston is a magnetic live performer and astonishing piano player with a rich resonant voice. Her original songs, compositions and mastery of boogie-woogie captivate audiences at festivals and in concerts around the world. Winner of five Music Awards, Jan writes music for film and TV and composes and performs for silent movies.
